Six new board members were welcomed and sworn in by the  CFGC Board of Directors at the 2012 Annual Meeting on January 12,2012.

Everyone enjoyed a wonderful lunch and celebration of the accomplisments of 2011 at Kelly Square Restaurant.  Stacy Rake received the Caring Heart Award for her outstanding  6 years of board leadership and service.  Laura LeCrone received the LifeSaver Award for her excellent service to the CFGC staff in providing legal advice and guidance.  Nancy Gill and Cruz Acosta (not pictured) received the "Gold Medal Award" for their outstanding board leadership, service, advocacy, and loyalty to the center in 2011. 
 
Incoming president, Linda Creswell thanked the board and staff for all of their hardwork and commitment to the center in 2011.  2012 is going to be a terrific year for the Child & Family Guidance Center as we continue to strive to provide excellent care to our clients and  increase awareness in the community of our services. 



 
Texoma Medical Center Volunteers Donate $3000.00 to help CFGC serve low income clients

 Nancy Gill and  Brenda Hayward gratefully accepted a wonderful donation of $3000.00 from the Texoma Medical Center Volunteers. This generous gift will help the center provide outpatient mental health services to families who are uninsured and/or underinsured.  The ongoing support of the Texoma Medical Center Volunteers is greatly appreciated.
 
 
Emerson Process Management Fisher Controls Donates to CFGC

Pottsboro Kids Club receives donated computers from Child & Family Guidance Center
 
 The Child & Family Guidance Center is thrilled to donate 6 computers to the Pottsboro Kids Club.  CFGC just completed an extensive electronic health record software and hardware conversion that resulted in new computers and the opportunity to donate our most gently used computers to the Pottsboro Kids Club.  Pottsboro Kids Club executive director, Judy Nolan was so excited to receive the computers. Judy stated most all of the computers at the club has just stopped working. The timing was perfect.  CFGC extends since gratitude to the W. B. Munson Foundation for funds to help with the project.

Summer Time Volunteers...Kailey Hamilton and Clay Stubblefield make Operation Warm Fuzzy Blankets!
 
Even as hot as it has been this summer our children LOVE OWF Blankets!!! We ran out and were blessed to have 2 Denison teenagers volunteer to make some more to hold us over during the summer months.  Sophmores Kailey Hamilton and Clay Stubblefield spent a day at the center making these very special blankets.  We are truly grateful for their time and caring spirits.
 
   
 
  
Lexi Wilson passes the torch to Michal Olmstead to carry on the Operation Warm Fuzzy Project! 
 

 
The Operation Warm Fuzzy project is being passed to Michal Olmstead for the 2011/12 school year. We are so thrilled that the program continues to be led by outstanding Sherman ISD students.  We greatly appreciate Lexi Wilson and the Sisters of Service hard work to keep blankets in stock for our clients.  We look forward to working with Michal. Thank so very much!
 
 
Thanks to the Home Builders Association... CFGC received $5000.00 from proceeds of the Home & Garden Show
 
Jason Sofey, President of the Home Builders Association of Grayson, Fannin, & Cooke Counties presented a $5000.00 donation to CFGC President Nancy Kirkpatrick at the Center's June 9th Board Meeting.  The funds were raised from the 2011 Home & Garden Show.  The Center is extremely grateful to the HBA and greatly enjoyed working with the HBA members at the show this year.    
 
 
Child & Family Guidance Center Welcomes New Clinical Director
 
 

Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma is excited to announce to the community that Jean Goodner, LPC S is the new clinical director of the center. As a licensed therapist, Jean has been working in a contract capacity for two years at the center. Her work has greatly benefited the clients served and positioned her well for the leadership role of clinical director.

Goodner earned her bachelor’s degree in art and psychology from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She completed her master’s degree to become a certified school counselor and licensed professional counselor from Amberton University and Dallas Baptist University. She completed her supervisor training at the University of North Texas. 

Goodner brings over 20 years of professional experience, including 15 years as a school counselor at Thomas Haley Elementary in Irving, Texas and Ginnings Elementary in Denton, Texas and work in private practice for several years.

Jean’s training is extensive including school counselor certified in Texas and Oklahoma and LPC licensure in Texas. Her widely diversified counseling skills and techniques used to assist children, families, and adults through trial and trauma make her a great asset to the CFGC team. 

“I am excited to become an integral part of the Child & Family Guidance Center after serving as a contract therapist for this well run organization. It is exciting to see success in families with therapy, psychological testing and parenting education resources. Plans are in process to continue growth by offering assistance to our community through services and education. I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with such and ethical and caring group of professionals,” Goodner said.

Goodner is very active in her community through church, professional memberships, and volunteer projects. She is a member of Texas School Counselor Association, Dallas Metro Counseling Association Emerging Leader and North Texas Counseling Association, PTA Life Member and State Senator for the Texoma Counseling Association. 

Goodner has volunteered for several years as a church missionary. From 1997 to 1999 she was a volunteer with the Bulgarian Ministry of Education/Bulgarian Parliament assisting with developing a plan to integrate special education children into the public school system after the fall of Communism. Assisted with parliamentary procedure developments to enact legislation, which facilitated foreign adoption of infants and assisted with enacting legislation to protect abused children. Goodner has also served on mission trips to Mexico, New Orleans, and South Texas.

Goodner lives in Pottsboro with her husband Jay.  She has one daughter and two grandchildren who live in Mesquite, Texas.
 
APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
 
Please join us in raising awareness about child abuse and how to prevent abuse and neglect.   Please wear BLUE EVERY FRIDAY in APRIL to show your commitment to this cause.  Click here for suggestions of how to help provided by the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services.
 
CFGC has gone BLUE!  Staff and board members are wearing blue ribbons and t-shirts that say HELP PREVENT CHILD ABUSE.  A BIG Blue Ribbon and Pinwheels will get your attention as you walk up to the center. Each child served at the center in April is asked to tie a blue ribbon to the front entrance hedges as they leave the building to increase our homage to all the children who have suffered abuse and neglect. 
 
Happenings in April to raise awareness...and how YOU CAN HELP!
 
CFGC will have a table at Belk Charity Days Saturday, April 16th  from 6 am to 10 am handing out blue ribbons and prevention information.  Stop by and purchase a $5 Belk Card to shop for BIG Discounts. Funds will help the center provide services to abused and neglected children.
 
DINE OUT at Texas Roadhouse on April 19th from 3 to 9 pm to help CFGC raise awareness of child abuse and ways all of us can help prevent this tragedy.   Please click here to print the dine out flyer.  Please bring it with you to Texas Roadhouse and CFGC will receive a portion of the proceeds for your meal(s). Eva Richard volunteers to make Operation Warm Fuzzy Pillows for our clients
 
 
Eva walked into the center one day with a big smile and a big bag full of wonderful fleece pillows that she made for our clients. The pillows are a spin off of the incredibly successful Operation Warm Fuzzy project, founded by Sara Fallon in 2003.  Since then leadership teenagers and adult volunteers like Eva have continued to make the blankets and pillows for the children served at CFGC.  Their caring hearts warm the hearts of hundreds of children who find help, hope and healing at CFGC. A warm blanket or pillow is a special gift given to each new clients making them feel extra special. Thank you Eva and all the OWF volunteers.

 January 13,2011 CFGC Board of Directors held their Annual Meeting at the New North RIG Grill Restaurant in Denison Texas.  Board Member David Bayless, Jr., graciously hosted the event.  Everyone enjoyed the food, fun and celebrations of a very successful 2010 at the Child & Family Guidance Center. Several fun awards were given in appreciation to the dedicated and hard working board members.
 
 
Debra Faries is an Awesome Volunteer for CFGC! 
 
 
Debra Faries is an incredible volunteer! She has a beautiful spirit and giving heart. Her passion is to help wherever she can.  And she helps in a big way at the Child & Family Guidance Center.  Debra helps the front office staff with important adminsitrave tasks and she was a life saver during the Harley Fundraiser stuffing goody bags for the bikers, and decorating the Harley Gift Basket. Her talents are many and she is a true delight to be around. We extend our sincere gratitude to Debra for all she does for us at CFGC!

The Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma is thrilled to announce Lexi Wilson is  the Operation Warm Fuzzy Project  Volunteer  for the school year 2010/2011!  This outstanding senior stopped by the center in July to visit, learn more about the center and bring a few dozen beautiful OWF blankets that she and other  leadership students of Sisters of Service (SOS) had made. Lexi is president of the organization and is excited about leading the group as well as heading up the OWF project.  We a re equally grateful to Lexi for carrying the torch to keep the OWF project going. The project was founded in 2004 by 16 year old Sarah Fallon and has been sustained each year by outstanding teenagers.   Lexi is now focusing her  attention on  raising funds for the material to make more and more blankets.  Please consider making a donation to the project.  Fun had by All at the 1st Annual Home & Garden Show Saturday, April 24th, 2010
 
 
 

The Home Builders Association of Grayson, Fannin, and Cooke Counties hosted the 1st Annual Home & Garden Show at the Former Circuit City Building on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.  Thousands of visitors stopped by to tour the show. It was an incredible success!  CFGC had a booth at the show to help the community better understand our services and to acknowledge the center as the charity for the Parade of Homes which will take place May 1 &2nd and May 7,8, & 9th.  CFGC is a tickets selling site for the tour.  Tickets are $8.00 per person.   Please plan on touring the beautiful homes on the tour and supporting the Home Builders Assocation, its members and CFGC!

Amy Knight  and son Josh from Knight Family Chiropractic  paid a visit to our center on Tuesday, August 11th to show their appreciation for the work we do in the community. CFGC Staff Appreciation Lunch May 4, 2009..Fun had by All!!!
May 4th CFGC Staff was treated to a fun and relaxing lunch that included delicious food from LaMesa, sparking beverages, scrumptious desserts and chair massages by Tranquility Spa in celebration and appreciation for the wonderful work the therapists and front office staff provide to our clients.


Wal-Mart Superstore in Sherman donates $1000.00 to CFGC


Rodney Gray froma Wal- Mart Superstore in Sherman, Texas presents Jessica Hamilton from CFGC with a $1000.00 check to help the center provide psychological services for low income families. CFGC is extremely grateful to Wal-Mart for their support to help Texoma families.

 

 
 
 
Elias & Hanna Regensburger Foundation grants CFGC $3750.00 to help low income families
                                          

The Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma Board of Directors and staff extends their heartfelt appreciation to the Trustees of the Elias and Hanna Regensburger Foundation for their recent donation of $3,750.00.  Board President, Dr. Lanna McClain states, “We are very grateful to the Regensburger Foundation for this generous gift that enables us to continue to provide critically needed mental health services to low income children and their families. This financial gift makes it possible for our therapists to bring hope and healing to Texoma families.”

Sherman Chamber's Vegas Nights Benefit Child & Family Guidance Center

Sherman Chamber President Traci Carlson presented a check totaling $1492.00 to Board President Dr. Lanna McClain at the  Center’s April board meeting.       Dr. McClain expressed gratitude by stating “We are very grateful to the Sherman Chamber for selecting our agency to be a charity recipient of your 2008 annual gala event. We want to thank all of the Sherman Chamber Vegas Nights Gala sponsors, volunteers, and staff who worked so hard to make the event a great success. Steve Matheny volunteers to be Child & Family Guidance Center 's "Handyman"


Steve Matheny has volunteered to be CFGC 's Handyman...coming by each week to see what needs to be repaired and fixed. Steve can do anything when it comes to home repairs and landscape maintenance.  Retired a few years from MEMC, Steve is happy to help out and keep CFGC looking great.

Community Youth Support Child & Family Guidance Center

 
A BIG Thank You to Kelsi Burnett, our Operation Warm Fuzzy (OWF) 2008/2009 Sherman High School Senior Volunteer.

 Kelsi raises the funds for the material and along with her mother, Debbie (pictured)  and Kelsi’s friends make the OWF Blankets that each new client at Child & Family Guidance Center of Texoma receives at the end of their first session. Kelsi and friends have made over 100 blankets.

We are greatly blessed to have Kelsi carry on this wonderful tradition that was created by Sarah Fallon in 2004.

Texoma Health Foundation awards CFGC $15,000 and representatives tour center 
 
CFGC board members enjoyed a visit from Texoma Health Foundation representives who toured the new Child & Family Guidance Center on August 28th. THF board president, Herman Ringler and president, Michelle Lemming, and assistant director, Michelle Daniels visited the center to meet board members and staff and to learn more about services that a recent grant will help fund.   CFGC board members Tim Blalock, Lisanne Anderson, Joe Madden, Stacy Rake, and Gina Smith were on hand to thank the THF representatives personally for the recent grant of $15,000 to help serve uninsured and underinsured Texoma families.

Target Store Grants CFGC $1000.00 to help Low income Texoma Families

CFGC received $1000.00 from the local Target Store in Sherman, Texas on August 5th, 2008.  We are proud to have the support of Target. The funds will help us provide counseling services to low income families that are uninsured or underinsured.  Thank you Target for being a great community leader and supporter of CFGC.
 
 
CFGC Receives $2,500.00 from Emerson Process Management/Fisher Controls International

check from Dusty Payne, Human Resource Manager and Todd Lowe, Plant Manager of
Emerson Process Management/FisherControls International.  The funds will help augment the reduced fee scale provided to clients for services who are uninsured and/or underinsured. The company has been a long time supporter of CFGC through financial donations for program services, sponsorship of the Annual Harley event, and employee drives to provide snacks and program supplies for clients.  Dusy Payne supports the organization through board membership and his tremendous advocacy of the agency at Emerson and throughout the community. CFGC and the community is blessed to have suppport of Emerson Process Management/Fisher Controls International Company.                                       Thank you Dusty and Todd!
   
 
Sherman Rotary Club grants CFGC $1,000.00
 
 President Rad Richardson and Fellow Rotarians Joe Fallon, Jr., Mack Snider, and Frank Gadek accept a certificate of appreciation for the grant.
